Overview

You and a friend will meet with one of our experienced sea kayak guides who will help you to decide which part of the pristine peninsula you should explore. This will depend on a number of factors including weather conditions, movement of the wildlife and your experience level.

Then it's into the Landrover Defender as we drive to our kayak launch location. Here your SKOANZ qualified sea kayak guide will provide you with a map, VHF radio, a back up mobile phone, spare paddle and safety flares before going through a safety briefing. Now that you are comfortable on your top of the range kayak, it's time to start your kayaking adventure.

You will be free to explore the spectacular surrounds of the Kaikoura Peninsula at your own pace. You can expect to see an abundance of wildlife including fur seals, the occasional dolphin or whale and a multitude of sea birds - including the graceful albatross.

You will then make your way back to the launch location to end your half day in the water.

PLEASE NOTE: This is an unguided kayak tour.

The price quoted is for two people. This is an unguided kayak hire.

Session Time

This experience operates all year round, subject to availability. Weekend dates are particularly busy so they should be booked at least 2 days in advance. As a guide, please allow about 4 hours for your experience.

Guidelines & Restrictions

You must be over 14 years of age, have previous sea kayaking experience and be able to swim. PLEASE NOTE: We do not hire kayaks to solo paddlers.

You will need to sign a waiver prior to participating in the experience. All paddlers will be provided with a life jacket.

Extra Info

We recommend that you bring a hat, sunglasses, long sleeve thermal top, board shorts or quick dry long pants, water friendly sandals or trainers and water. Depending on the weather conditions, we may supply fleece hats, booties, spray jackets, gloves and a dry bag for cameras. Sea kayaking may be cancelled due to wind and sea conditions. This is however, somewhat dependant on the experience level of the participant.In the case of poor weather, we will reschedule your experience for a later date.
